Where would you stay if you are visiting Kuala Lumpur? That was the question my wife and I asked ourselves every time we dropped by the capital. Hotels are expensive for long stays so we looked around the city center to see what possibilities exist. It was by chance that we stumbled upon Ambassador Row Suites online so we gave it a try, a decision which drove us to return to this same hotel suite more than once.

Superior One Bedroom Duta Suite, cozy like home, the mess of home to match...

Lanson Place, a hospitality management group with a collection of properties across Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, has two of its apartments in the capital of Malaysia - one being Ambassador Row Suites, the other being Bukit Ceylon Serviced Residences. The former is located on Jalan Ampang, one of the major roadways of Kuala Lumpur and on which lies the iconic Petronas Twin Towers. It is named Ambassador Row Suites for the obvious reason that it is surrounded by embassies from various countries (duh...).

Despite the fact that we were ignorant of its existence in the past (and by most people I believe), it is quite well known among taxi drivers such that most of them drove unerringly to the spot when mentioned "Ambassador Row Suites". If you are coming on LRT, it is best to drop off on Dato Keramat as it has more taxis waiting there to pick up passengers.

The kitchenette may be small but it has almost everything you need to do your light cooking, including microwave oven, induction oven and an electric kettle. They even supply you with washing detergent and scrub to clean the utensils.

Welcome to Ambassador Row Hotel Suites

So far I have been selecting their Superior One Bedroom Duta Suite for my visits, costing approximately RM300 per night (tax inclusive), with breakfast thrown into the package. To me the price is worthy for one main reason - the suite has a spacious floor space of ~600 ft2 with bedroom and a separate living room and kitchenette. Such a spacious suite has allowed us to feel at home, a feeling that an accommodation away from home should have felt like.

A living room and kitchenette in the suite would meant that the patron could entertain guests, be it friends or relatives, even cooking a light meal with the cooking facilities that come with the kitchenette. I did cook my wife some late night noodles with the kitchen oven and even microwaved some reheat-able supper when we got hungry. The marble counter top acting as a divider between both areas usually became my workspace, my laptop the main occupant of the space.

I usually have to contend with my luggage taking up the floor close to the bed in hotels, hoping that there are ample space left without tripping myself over. With Ambassador Row Suites' bedroom size, I have more than enough for me to place a large luggage bag, even for a 1-bedroom suite. Sometimes I placed my additional luggage in the living room temporary, moving them only if we decided to lounge on the sofa.

There is another TV in the bedroom so you could watch your favorite channel before you cuddle to sleep.

The purple of the living room is more obvious when illuminated at night.

Shower stall and toilet

Even their washing room is spacious...

Our complimentary toiletries

There isn't any scenery to comment on - the view out of the window is just the rooftop of nearby apartments and the incessant construction going on...

The corridor outside of our room - the center of the hotel building is an open area cutting across all floors to the top, lending a feel that you are staying in an apartment... More on this in the subsequent post.

Ambassador Row Suites is quite family friendly - they even have a play room for kids.

The main target of Ambassador Row Suites is not just couples like us, but rather families where members require more room to live in comfortably. Instead of paying for 2 rooms, a family or a group of 3 - 4 persons could get their 2-bedroom suites, which contains 2 bedrooms as its name suggests as well as a larger living room and kitchenette, occupying between 1145 - 1260 ft2.

Their largest suite, the luxurious Embassy Suite, has up to 2060 ft2 with 3 bedrooms as well as the living room and kitchenette, although it is theoretically meant for up to 4 adults only, with little difference to their 2-bedroom suite apart from the size and layout. Apart from the 1-bedroom suites, each of their larger suites has a washing machine within the suite, making this a very worthy choice for a family.

One thing to note when choosing their suites is the name - Ambassador Row Suites recently undergone a renovation and upgrade, and thus they now have the Standard Suites and the Duta Suites. The former range contains room before renovation where as the latter contains post-renovation. I would recommend the Duta Suite, which is the focus of my review here, as this is newer and, according to some online reviews, more comfortable.

The next post will share more on hotel itself, our breakfast experience, what to do around Ambassador Row Hotel Suites, as well as some downsides of staying in this hotel that travelers should be aware of before committing yourself to staying here.
