2014 Germany Trip - Eiscafé Mauro @ Rothenburg

Location: Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany

German: Eis is German for ice-cream (yes, fooled you didn't it)
Eiscafé is German for ice-cream parlor, a place which sells ice-cream (not really a café)

Itinerary and full experience of my visit to Germany can be accessed through the link below:

Have you ever considered eating ice-cream when the weather around you is lower than 10°C? I had. It was quite fun and contrary to my initial belief, it didn't make me colder. With the environment being so cold, consuming scoops of ice-cream had little effect on my body temperature.

Good weather for an ice-cream

Singapore Food Blog - Mad for Garlic @ Clarke Quay

Location: Clarke Quay, Central Business District (CBD), Singapore

Updated 29-Nov-2015: This outlet in Clarke Quay is permanently closed. Outlets of Mad for Garlic can still be located in other locations through here: outlet locations.

The name itself is warning enough for the vampiric and alliumphobic (that's fear of garlic) alike. If you fall into either category, you should not venture into this restaurant. Consider yourself warned. Or that is what the restaurant is supposed to be about.

Packed into a corner of the outlandish exotic restaurant area in Clarke Quay, Mad for Garlic is in itself an exotic. The wreaths of garlic hanging on the wall outside as well as randomly in the restaurant are testaments to that. The mainly Italian dishes incorporated garlic as its ingredient, be it a dipping sauce or being ground unto the main course. The establishment identified itself as a bistro and restaurant (its website claimed itself to be an 'Italian Wine Bistro' as well as 'The Original Wine and Garlic Restaurant') - with a long bar and dark environment, it seemed more former than latter.

Singapore Food Blog - La Braceria

Location: Bukit Timah, Singapore

Lying hidden from sight in a rather upscale neighborhood is a small restaurant called La Braceria. To those who understand Italian, it is “The Grill”, but to those who don’t, its translation mattered not. Because they would have visited this restaurant anyway, or they wouldn't even know its name or its location.

We chanced upon a voucher offering discounts and thought we would avail ourselves of the chance for some authentic Italian servings, although we had our share of doubt since there are so many franchises and restaurants out there that unabashedly claimed to have served “authentic Italian meals” as well. A website menu packed full of Italian words helped make up our mind and off we went to explore the gastronomic offers of La Braceria.

Tucked behind a garden is the topic of this sharing: La Braceria.

Malaysia Food Blog - International Buffet Dinner @ Café Laurel, Evergreen Laurel Hotel Part 2

Location: Gurney Drive, Georgetown, Penang Isle

Truth is, I was slightly disappointed with the food there. Not to say that the food was not nice, but the selection of food could do with some improvement. Since this was supposed to be an international buffet, with Italian as a the main choice of theme, the choices were the usual you would expect from any locally planned 'international buffet'.

A dish of yummies, all deep fried to golden crispiness! Maybe I should take back my word on nothing special here... deep fried vegetables were indeed different (it was labeled as 'tempura vegetable').

And what were these...?

Malaysia Food Blog - International Buffet Dinner @ Café Laurel, Evergreen Laurel Hotel Part 1

Location: Gurney Drive, Georgetown, Penang Isle

When I was in Evergreen Laurel Hotel a few months ago (read here for my previous article), I noticed the nicely decorated Café Laurel, but never paid it any thoughts. Now after a few months later, I got my paws on some discounted vouchers and here I am, visiting the hotel in Gurney Drive for a second time.

A dazzling central area of the café where a variety of seafood awaits.
