Location: Orchard, Central Business District (CBD), Singapore
Note: This post is written base on experience in Holiday Inn Orchard City Center, not Holiday Inn Express, which is also around the same vicinity.
On a fine Sunday after a sumptuous lunch, we decided that we want to try out the voucher we bought for a high tea treat in Holiday Inn Orchard, seeing that we were in the vicinity. No, actually that Sunday was not fine at all because it was hot as hell. Nevertheless the thought of chilling off in an air-conditioned hotel lobby for high tea would beat the horrors of throng filled malls.
True to the fame of Holiday Inn chain of hotels, its high-ceiling lobby beckoned us welcome and we immediately saw the vast lounge off to its side, its glass walls separating the cool interior from the scorching streets. Occupants were sparsely seated and with such a spacious lounge, we were spoiled for choice when it came to deciding where to relax. We finally decided to occupy one of the sofas in oppose to table and chair seating that seemed to gear towards comfortable business discussions in hushed tones.

We began our high tea set with a choice of tea or coffee for each of us. After serving us our chosen beverages, we were then presented with the highlight of the evening - an ornate 3-tiered tray with colorful and delectable snacks. Holiday Inn made a twist by offering sticks of teriyaki chicken in whiskey shot glasses partially filled with dipping sauce - who says that Singapore has no creativity? The rest of the tea set were the usual sandwiches and cakes though their heavenly taste was far from usual. I think I have gained weight from those cakes but that weight is gained with a satisfying thumbs-up.
I am not sure if the set will remain the same but here is the list of items offered within the high tea set (as listed in the Groupon voucher). Use this only for your reference.
- Open-faced tuna sandwiches, smoked salmon sandwiches, and avocado sandwiches
- Vegetarian pizza
- Teriyaki chicken
- Vegetarian samosa
- Grilled cheese sausage
- Chocolate mud cake
- Strawberry cake
- Cream puff
- Mango cake
Those mouth watering cakes just want to make me nom-nom-nom! |
Waiting patiently for photo taking before eating... Notice those 2 sticks of teriyaki chicken on the top tier? That is quite the twist Holiday Inn offer to the high tea set. |
Chocolate cake, mango cake, strawberry cake, cream puff... Diet be damned! Today, we dine in Holiday Inn! |
Is this your cup of tea? No, it is my cup of coffee! |
Nice foamy cappuccino |
A pot of peppermint tea to calm the nerves before chomping on the calories... |
We got out voucher at SGD39.90 via Groupon, and it was a set meant for 2 - it was also mentioned that the original price should be SGD79.80 for 2. Although Groupon no longer offer this voucher, I do see similar vouchers cropping out now and then in other websites. The hotel's Facebook page also mentions an offer of 1-for1 high tea set (read here) at SGD36 nett for 2, so it pays to check with the management if this offer is still available or surf around the net to see if you can get some vouchers for a worthy evening.
